Spring Update!

WOW!! What a season so far! We had 80-degree weather in MAY, an early dry start to the season and amazing growth this year! We are so happy with all of the new sign-ups we had this year. It was a pleasant surprise that we did our very best to keep pace with it. We have hired 2 additional employees this year to handle the extra workload and are looking at another part-time addition this fall. So… Phew.

New Grub Control Update

The new Acelepryn Grub Control has been applied to all of you who signed up for it. For those that haven’t, you still have a chance to protect your lawn. However, if we apply the treatment now you can only expect the effectiveness of it to go down as time goes on. Since it needs to be applied early in the season and worked in the soil and plant before the beetles lay their eggs, you have only a certain amount of time to protect your lawn before egg lay. The goal is to control the grubs after they hatch from the beetle egg lay. If the beetles lay their eggs and then you decide to have a treatment applied, you MUST WATER IT IN IMMEDIATELY! The product will need to be worked into the soil as soon as possible and since water is the means that plants move nutrients through their tissue, you need to provide it if it isn’t there! 1/2″ of water for 2 days in a row will do it just fine!

Don’t be another statistic! If you aren’t already taking a grub control from us, you should consider it now, especially if you have a massive invasion. All spring treatments up to the 2nd week in June are guaranteed! However, if you still want to be protected we can tell you that this product is extremely effective and will still provide great results after the 2nd week in June for at least another few weeks.

European Crane Fly

Please read the article on our website regarding this new invasive species. It is of concern that when it is controlled will be of issue regarding the number of treatments your lawn will need to protect against it. We are currently told that we may still be able to control it with the same Grub Control treatment that we apply in the spring. If that is the case, then all the more reason you should have a preventive treatment to keep your turf grass protected! As we receive more information regarding this insect, we will keep you updated.

Fungus issues

We have now received plenty of rain for the third year in a row this time of the season. When we receive excessive rain, lack of sunlight, heat and humidity fungus blooms and tends to spread. Compare it to getting a cold. Your lawn has become sick and weak because of the invader. The best defense is to keep your mower blades sharp, mow consistently at 2.5 – 3″ and not remove more than 1/3 of the leaf blade per cut. This simple mowing technique can do wonders for your lawn over time if you are consistent with it.

If you feel that you may have something wrong with your lawn, please don’t hesitate to contact us! It takes a trained eye to properly diagnose fungus and other lawn problems. Diagnosing issues properly the first time is the way to success.
